These terms cover your use of Holt, the fitness and activity tracking app made by Otter d.o.o. ("we", "us", "Otter"). Installing or using the app means you agree to them. If you don't agree, that's fine, but please don't use the app.
This is the agreement for the Holt mobile app. It isn't the policy for this website - that's the Privacy & Cookie Policy. For what Holt does with the data it holds, see the Holt Privacy Policy.
Who we are
Otter d.o.o. is a small studio based in Montenegro. If you need to reach us about anything in these terms, email office@otterdev.me.
Who can use Holt
You need to be at least 13 years old to use Holt. If you're under the age of majority where you live, use it with a parent or guardian involved. By using the app you're confirming you meet this.
Your account and your data
Holt works without an account. On first launch the app creates a random ID on your device and ties your data to it. You can add an account later - just an email and password - so your data can move to another phone.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- If you use the app without an account and then lose the device or clear the app's data, there's usually no way for us to recover what was stored only on that device. An account is what makes recovery possible.
- Email office@otterdev.me if you think someone else has gotten into your account.
Connecting Garmin
Linking a Garmin Connect account is optional. If you do it, you're authorizing Garmin to send us the data types you choose, through Garmin's own sign-in flow. That connection is also governed by your agreement with Garmin, and Garmin decides what it sends and when.
You can disconnect at any time, from Holt's settings or from your Garmin account. Disconnecting stops new data from arriving; it doesn't delete what has already synced (the privacy policy covers how to remove that). We can't guarantee Garmin's data is complete, accurate, or delivered on any schedule, and we're not responsible for outages or changes on Garmin's side.
Holt is not medical advice
Holt shows you activity and health information recorded by your phone or your Garmin device, plus trends and estimates built from it. Numbers like VO2 max, HRV, stress, and body battery are estimates, not clinical measurements, and they can be wrong.
None of this is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a substitute for a professional. Talk to a doctor before you start a new exercise routine or change one you're already doing, and if something feels wrong during activity, stop and get help. Don't use Holt to make decisions about a medical condition. How you train is your responsibility.
Using the app fairly
When you use Holt, don't:
- break the law with it, or use it to harm someone else;
- try to reach data that isn't yours, or get around the checks that keep accounts separate;
- scrape or overload our servers, or work around the rate limits;
- reverse-engineer or tamper with the app in order to attack the service or other users - being curious about how it works is fine, using that to break it is not;
- resell the app or pass it off as your own.
Routines and details you add
Strength routines, exercises, notes, and profile details you enter stay yours. You're giving us only the permission we need to store that content, show it back to you in the app, and sync it between your devices if you have an account. We don't claim ownership of it and we don't use it for anything else.
The app is provided as it is
Holt is free, and we run it on a best-effort basis. We don't promise it will always be available or bug-free, or that every metric will be there when you expect it - Garmin syncs arrive in pieces, and devices differ in what they record. Features can change, and some may be added or dropped over time. When a change is significant and we're able to give notice in the app first, we'll try to.
Other services involved
Getting and running Holt involves a few services with their own terms: the Apple App Store or Google Play, Apple and Google's push notification systems, Garmin if you connect it, and our Discord server if you join it. Those terms are between you and them; we don't control them.
Ending things
You can stop using Holt whenever you want. Deleting your account and data is available in the app's settings, and it's permanent.
We can suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we have to in order to protect the service or other people. If we ever discontinue Holt for everyone, we'll give reasonable notice where we can and, if you have an account, a chance to get your data out first.
Liability
As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or unexpected losses, for lost or inaccurate data, or for anything that follows from relying on the estimates Holt shows. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. For a change that materially affects you, we'll flag it in the app where that's practical. Using Holt after an update means you accept the new version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Montenegro. If you're a consumer, this doesn't remove protections you're entitled to under the law of the country you live in.
