Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Holt is a fitness and activity tracking app made by Otter d.o.o. ("we", "us", "Otter"). This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what your choices are. It covers the Holt mobile app only, not this website (see the site's own Privacy & Cookie Policy for that).

Who we are

Otter d.o.o. is a small studio based in Montenegro. For any privacy question or data request, email office@otterdev.me.

Information we collect

Holt works without creating an account: on first launch, the app generates a random device ID and uses it to identify your data. Everything below is tied to that ID (or your account, if you create one), not to a name we already know.

  • Account information (optional). Creating an account only requires an email address and password, so your data can follow you to a second phone. We don't collect your name.
  • Location data. When you record a walk, run, or ride in the app, we collect GPS location to plot your route, distance, and pace. If you enable background tracking, location continues to be recorded while your phone is locked or the app isn't in the foreground, so a recording doesn't cut off - this only happens during an active recording, never in the background otherwise.
  • Motion and fitness data. Holt reads your phone's motion sensors to count steps during in-app recordings.
  • Garmin health and activity data (only if you connect a Garmin account). With your explicit authorization through Garmin's own sign-in flow, Garmin sends us data as it becomes available, which may include: activities and GPS routes, sleep, resting and active heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), stress, pulse oxygen, body composition, respiration, blood pressure, skin temperature, and fitness metrics like VO2 max. We only receive what Garmin's Health API sends for the data types you authorize - we don't request anything beyond that.
  • Profile and workout data you enter. Details like age, weight, or height (if you add them), and any strength-training routines or exercises you build in the app. This is your own data - none of it comes from Garmin or any device.
  • Basic technical data. Our servers see the IP address of requests the app makes, used only to guard against abuse (for example, rate-limiting repeated login attempts). We don't use it for tracking or analytics.

We don't use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app - nothing here is collected for advertising purposes.

How we use this data

  • To show your activities, health metrics, and trends inside the app.
  • To sync your data across devices if you're signed in to an account.
  • To keep the service reliable and secure (e.g. rate-limiting, fraud prevention).

We don't use your data to build advertising profiles, and we don't sell it.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored on servers we operate and control. It's transmitted between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). We don't share, sell, or rent your personal or health data to third parties. The only outside service involved is Garmin itself, and only to pull the data you explicitly authorized it to send us - we don't send your data to Garmin or anyone else.

Data retention and deletion

  • Individual activities can be deleted permanently from within the app at any time, from the activity's own detail screen.
  • Full account deletion is available directly in the app, from Settings - it permanently deletes your account (if you created one), activities, Garmin sync history, workouts, and profile data. You can also request this by emailing office@otterdev.me.
  • Garmin access can be revoked at any time from your Garmin Connect account settings, independent of Holt. Revoking it stops new data from being sent to us, but doesn't delete what's already stored - use the account deletion option above for that.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you at any time by emailing office@otterdev.me. If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, this includes the rights available to you under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and data portability).

Children's privacy

Holt isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
